Anthra vs Squibler.

A fast full-draft generator for books and screenplays, and an agent that takes a book from idea to audiobook and print.

The short answer

Choose Squibler if you want a full-length first draft fast from a concept, or you also write screenplays. It adds images and short video clips from your scenes, translation into 80+ languages, a free tier, and unlimited AI credits on its Pro plan.

Choose Anthra if you want an AI agent to carry the whole book (planning, drafting, continuity checks, cover and chapter art, a narrated audiobook, EPUB/PDF/DOCX and a print-ready paperback), asking for your approval before costly steps, and to publish it without leaving the app. Choose it too if you want to run the work from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor over MCP, or you prefer credits that never expire to a subscription.

As of October 2026. Squibler details come from Squibler’s own website (linked below) and may have changed since.

Where Squibler is better

Range and speed. Squibler generates a full-length, chapter-and-scene draft from your concept, genre and core elements, and does the same for screenplays with formatted scenes and dialogue, which Anthra does not. It can turn a highlighted passage into a short video clip, translate a book into 80+ languages, and its Pro plan offers unlimited AI credits for writers who generate a lot. There is also a free tier with no time limit.

Writing

Squibler starts from a generated draft. It outlines structure, pacing and character progression, keeps structured characters, settings and key details to reference while writing, and its AI Smart Writer suggests improvements you accept, reject or refine. Rewrites adapt to tone, structure and genre.

Anthra works step by step with you. Its agent interviews you about the premise, builds a beat sheet and chapter outline for you to approve, then drafts chapters while checking against character, world and continuity bibles. A critique panel, a test-reader panel and continuity tools catch timeline slips, character drift and dangling threads, and edits land as track-changes suggestions. Every chapter also opens in a full editor.

Illustration and covers

Squibler makes book covers and illustrations, and generates images or short video clips from passages you highlight. Its FAQ says paid plans include unlimited images.

Anthra builds front, back and spine cover panels and composes a print-ready wraparound spread. It generates chapter illustrations and character portraits in one locked style, with character descriptions locked so faces stay consistent across the book.

Narration and audiobooks

Squibler says it doesn’t directly produce audiobooks; it helps you export clean chapters for an outside narration tool. Anthra narrates from the same manuscript: cast a narrator per character from 100+ ElevenLabs voices, layer ambience and intro stings, and export chapter-by-chapter M4B or MP3 files.

Export and publishing

Squibler’s paid plans export projects to PDF and DOCX. Its site says it doesn’t include built-in publishing or sales tracking, so you upload the formatted draft to a self-publishing platform. Its FAQ also mentions a free physical copy of the first book you create.

Anthra exports EPUB, PDF and DOCX for digital, M4B / MP3 for audio, and sends paperbacks to Lulu print-on-demand, calculating spine width and bleed. You can publish a public reading page on Anthra’s Discover storefront, gate downloads behind email capture or payment, and embed a reader on your own site.

Agent, MCP and API access

We found no public API or MCP server on Squibler’s site.

Anthra is agent-first. The in-app agent uses 250+ tools and stops for an Approve / Deny prompt before publishing, narration, image generation, deletion and print orders. The same toolkit is exposed over an MCP server: Claude.ai and ChatGPT connect over OAuth, and Cursor, Claude Code and Claude Desktop connect with a personal API key, scoped by permission and book with an optional monthly credit cap. A REST API with an OpenAPI schema rounds it out.

Pricing model

As of October 2026, Squibler’s free tier includes 1,000 AI credits a month with no time limit. Plus is $192 a year (shown as $15.83 a month, billed annually) with 10,000 AI credits a month, enough to generate a full 200 to 300 page book, plus PDF and DOCX export. Pro is $588 a year (shown as $49.17 a month, billed annually) with unlimited AI credits. Monthly billing is also offered. If you cancel, you can export your work or keep using the free tier.

Anthra has no subscription. You buy credit packs and spend them per step: about 2 credits to outline a book, 5 for a chapter and 4 for an illustration. Credits never expire. New accounts get welcome credits with no card required, and paid packs include a commercial license. See Anthra pricing.

FAQ

Is Anthra a good Squibler alternative?

For some authors. Squibler is built to turn a concept into a full-length first draft quickly, and it also writes screenplays, makes short video clips from scenes and translates into 80+ languages. Anthra suits authors who want an agent to work through the book step by step with approvals, keep a long manuscript consistent, then narrate it, print it and publish it in one place.

Can Squibler make an audiobook?

Not directly. As of October 2026, Squibler’s site says it doesn’t produce audiobooks and instead helps you export chapters for outside narration tools. Anthra narrates from the same manuscript, with a narrator per character, and exports M4B and MP3 files.

Which is cheaper, Squibler or Anthra?

They charge differently. As of October 2026, Squibler has a free tier with 1,000 AI credits a month, Plus at $192 a year (10,000 AI credits a month) and Pro at $588 a year with unlimited AI credits. Anthra has no subscription: credit packs never expire and a chapter costs about 5 credits. If you generate many books a year, Squibler Pro’s unlimited credits may work out cheaper.

Can I publish or print a book from either tool?

Squibler’s site says it doesn’t include built-in publishing, so you upload its PDF or DOCX to a self-publishing platform. Anthra exports EPUB, PDF and DOCX for any store, sends paperbacks to Lulu print-on-demand, and can publish a reading page on its Discover storefront with email- or payment-gated downloads.

Does either tool work with Claude or ChatGPT?

Anthra runs an MCP server: add it as a custom connector in Claude.ai or ChatGPT over OAuth, or connect Cursor and Claude Code with a scoped API key. We found no public API or MCP server on Squibler’s site.
