Write a Book From Claude or Cursor Over MCP

You don't have to open Anthra to use it. Anthra runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, the open standard AI assistants use to call outside tools. Connect it to Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude Code or your own agent, and that assistant can create books, write and revise chapters, generate illustrations and narration, and publish, all from the conversation you're already in.

Connect in Two Minutes

First, mint an API key in your Anthra dashboard. Keys are scoped: you choose whether a key can read books, write them, run generation or publish, and you can limit a key to specific books and set a monthly credit cap. Then add the server to your client. In Claude Code it's one command: claude mcp add --transport http anthra https://anthra.com/api/mcp with your key passed in an Authorization header. Claude Desktop and Cursor take the same URL and header in their MCP settings. The MCP setup guide in our docs has copy-paste config for each.

What Your Assistant Can Do

The MCP server exposes the same toolkit as Anthra's in-app agent. That covers the planning surface (premise interview, beat sheet, characters, outline grading), the writer's bible, chapter drafting and directed rewrites, continuity and prose checks, the specialist critique panel, illustration, narration and publishing. Ask Claude to outline a middle-grade adventure, draft the first three chapters, then run a continuity check, and it calls those tools in sequence.

"Your agent brings the conversation. Anthra brings the book."

Long Runs Without Babysitting

Writing a whole book takes longer than one chat turn. The generate_book tool starts a durable background job and returns right away. Your agent can poll the book's status, or you can register a webhook and receive a signed job.succeeded or book.published event when it's done. Prefer plain HTTP? Everything is also available through the versioned REST API, with an OpenAPI schema and a machine-readable tool catalog.

That opens up uses the studio alone can't: batch-producing a set of picture books from a list of ideas, keeping a serialized story going from a notes app, or building your own writing assistant on top of Anthra. Grab a key, follow the MCP guide, and ask your assistant for a book.
