A Shipwreck, a Mule, and a Clockwork Hero on a Rescue Beneath the Mountains of Oz

Tik-Tok and the Nome King's Prisoner

by Denys Kovalko

When a storm wrecks her ship, young Betsy Bobbin washes ashore with only her stubborn, loyal mule Hank for company, and soon falls in with the Shaggy Man, who is searching for a brother held captive by the wicked Nome King. Joined by the wind-up hero Tik-Tok, a rainbow's runaway daughter, and a pint-sized queen with an army of officers and just one private, they march into the glittering, treacherous caverns beneath the earth. Tricked, tumbled to the far side of the world, and faced with dragons and enchantments, they learn that kindness can open doors that no army ever could.
